about

Notes from Daniel Romberger about this arrangement:

Oh man, there's so much to say about this one I don't know where to begin. Clock Town is the central hub of Majora's Mask, which is well-known for its feeling of impending doom. Link has three days to try to stop the moon from causing an apocalypse by crashing into the city (right atop Clock Tower).

This arrangement is programmatic and inspired by the apocalyptic three-day cycle. The central Clock Town theme begins peacefully but becomes progressively more unsettling and frantic as the time remaining until the moon's collapse becomes closer and closer. Majora's Theme is also quoted numerous times throughout the course of the arrangement, emphasizing the impending destruction. Then, when the tension reaches it's apex, the Song of Time is heard in the low brass, at which point the three-day cycle resets.

Production-wise, this was one of our most involved videos yet, and not just because of the sheer number of musicians on the track. Thomas, Robby, and I all had a hand in the video on the editing side. I spent hours recording footage from multiple days and nights in the game, and it was a thrill to see Thomas and Robby take the game footage and instrumentalists' backgrounds and liven them up with visual effects and masks from the game.
