about

Turns out, most island and beach-related video game themes tend to be upbeat. When we teamed up with Ro Panuganti, I had two goals in mind. First, not wanting everything to be so jaunty, I combed over the handful of darker water-based themes from VGM to provide a bit a contrast to the mostly sunny fair you’ll be hearing this season. Second, I wanted something that would allow for a more ethereal sound and could make use of some of the guitar’s extended techniques, but also give Ro a chance to show off his virtuosity. Some cool possibilities came up, including a track from Ecco the Dolphin that, sadly, cannot legally be covered. So we settled on Bubble Man, which might seem an unlikely choice since it, like most Mega Man tracks, is a constant stream of high-energy. But I thought it could also work as a ballad of sorts. So we now present this Rock Band + Brass arrangement of Mega Man 2’s Bubble Man theme. Enjoy the waves as we float slowly by at the start, before diving deep underwater for an epic finale.
