Notes from Daniel Romberger about this arrangement:

When I started the Horns of Hyrule, my intention was to have exactly one piece from every console game in the Legend of Zelda series. However, since Link's Awakening originally debuted on the Game Boy, a handheld, this theme's inclusion is a bit of a stretch. That being said, it's a stretch I really wanted to make since Link's Awakening DX was the first Zelda game I ever played and holds a special place in my heart. Thus, Ballad of the Wind Fish is included because the game was remade on the Switch (a console that, incidentally, also straddles the line of being between console and handheld).

My other general principle behind the Horns of Hyrule is to arrange tracks that carry significant importance in the game that they're from. For that goal, Ballad of the Wind Fish is an extremely appropriate choice! Symbolizing Marin's longing to travel beyond Koholint Island, Ballad of the Wind Fish is emblematic of one of the central themes of the game and plays during several crucial occasions - conversing with Marin at the beach, having Marin sing for the walrus and residents of Animal Village, the credits, and, most importantly, when all the Instruments of the Sirens are collected in order to break inside the Wind Fish's Egg.

Throughout the course of this arrangement, I wanted to incorporate nods to every situation this theme is used. Much of the arrangement (especially at the beginning) is built around a four-note accompanying texture whose source material is the Wind Fish Egg opening cutscene. As with the quarter notes Dark World arrangement from A Link to the Past, I wanted to introduce this four note-motive as a connecting thread that links each part of the arrangement. In this case, the use of the motive culminates with the actual Egg opening fanfare which is the source from which the motive is derived.

I also had a shower inspiration to combine the Ballad melody with the Fairy Fountain theme. When discussing the track list, we were sad that Fairy Fountain didn't make it on there, so I'm glad we were able to work the theme in regardless. Thomas and Robby both took great care in editing the video for this scene. For the video as a whole, I did the preliminary edit, captured game footage, and had some ideas for specific shots midway through. With Robby's assistance, Thomas put a tremendous amount of work into making these shots a reality, and the video is so much better thanks to their efforts (even though gosh this one took a long time to render!).
