A shoe-in from the very start of this album’s planning, the Star Wolf theme is a natural choice for the Game Brass, but I wanted to push this concept a little further and include even more music from the Star Fox series, resulting in this three-part mini-suite. The concept is simple: a battle between the two rival mercenary teams, Star Wolf and Star Fox. Our core quintet begins with an arrangement of the Star Wolf battle theme from Star Fox 64, but is later interrupted by the theme of Star Fox. Things quickly escalate, though, as the two quintets come together to form a pair of dueling brass bands. The final “movement” of this piece has the ten players (and percussion) battling it out over the Corneria theme from the original SNES Star Fox, with statements of each team’s motif peppered in throughout the rest of the arrangement. Who will come out on top?
